January 2009 Prayer Letter

Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission

The heart of the wise are in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools in the house of mirth.
Ecclesiastes 7:4

Dear Praying Friends,
Greeting in Jesus name from the cool mountains of Pacoti. May you have a blessed 2009 as you follow Christ!
Here in Pacoti the temperature is down to 70 degrees! Nancy & I plus Rosie and Libby are here for our mission’s yearly conference. We are being blessed with messages on “Leading by Serving & Encouraging” from Acts 20:19 and Hebrews 3:12-14. I am looking forward to sharing what we are hearing here with our church in Jereissati. Pray for the Jereissati church as we are going thru a difficult time there. There was a case of adultery and many people are hurting. Sides are being taken by some and much wisdom from the LORD is needed. Please do pray!
On Dec 30th during the last time we were interior in Poco Doce by camp, a neighbor came over at 7:30 am to tell us that his
Finishing the grave Til we meet again, Senhor Antonio!
grandfather, Senhor Antonio, had just passed away. He was 92 and he had loved the LORD for the last 40 years of his life. We went right over to be with the family. Rosie and Libby both used to visit Senhor Antoio to read the Bible and pray with him. (He had been in poor health for the last 10 years.) Our girls loved Senhor Antonio. Pastor Ze Sales, who had gone out to buy a coffin, when he got back, dressed the body and placed it in the coffin. He asked then if I could bring the funeral Bible message. I said I would, and then went back home to prepare. Later that afternoon, I was asked if I could take the body in our open trailer the 16 kilmeters to Paraguai where the service and burial would be held . (I never thought our trailer would be used as a hearse!) I drove very carefully and slowly , especially on the rough stretches, as I tranported that special load to the Paraguai church by the Bible Institute. That evening I had a great opportunity to preach the Gospel at the funeral after we had sung Senhor Antonio’s favorite songs. The songs that he loved were about heaven and how Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Pray that unsaved neighbors who were there at the service might see their need of having the same eternal life that their friend Senhor Antonio has!
Thank you to those of you who prayed for Rosie’s trip to Brazil. She had a safe trip with no problems in customs with my medicine. She arrived at 2:30 am on December 24th. After sleeping part of the day, she was able to attend a Christmas program are our Jereissati church that night. She is looking forward to helping with the ministry at our church and school in Jereissati for one year and later being a missionary in Asia as the LORD leads. Pray for her as she begins!
We helped with four Christmas programs in December 2008!

Pray for Nancy and I as we prepare to minister to Bible Institute students beginning in February . Pray for me as I have been having more health problems the past weeks. Pray for Lydia and Shawn as they leave for Spain February 3rd as church planting missionaries.
Thank you again for your prayers and support!

Yours and His,
Ron and Nancy (plus Rosie and Libby)
